WRAP UP POST!!

A week back home and I'm finally sitting down to post for the last time. The flight home was quite the experience. I flew through the night and didn't get much sleep, so by the time I made it home, unpacked, and got settled, I had been up for a full 24 hours. It was really great seeing my parents and my dogs again. All the Christmas decorations were up so the house felt very festive. I also had a few work shifts and it's been nice to see everyone coming back from college. Naturally, everyone is asking me how my semester was. I'm half tempted just to give out the link to my blog just to make it easier. But really this semester has been the best. I had a lot of goals leading up to it. Some I met, some I didn't, but in reality I think my expectations were a little high. I was expecting to go on small trips every weekend and travel all over Alaska. Thinking back, that was really not practical, especially when throwing school into the mix. There are some things I want to

WEEK 15!!!

It's finally here! The end of the semester! Finals week went by very slow, as always. I finished up all my finals pretty successfully. I still have a bit more work to do though. I met with my biology professor a few days ago and she's still accepting any homework and exam corrections we want to submit. It was a lot of work, but in the past two days I retook 2 exams, did corrections for one of them, and did a primary literature evaluation all on top of taking the two attempts we're allowed for the final. I still have to complete one more homework assignment and end-of-the-semester survey before my flight tomorrow. Then all I have to worry about is cleaning out my dorm, doing laundry, and finishing packing. And requesting my transcript. And getting Christmas gifts. And getting back on the schedule at work. It's a busy time. I'm really looking forward to going home. I miss my family and my friends from home. I did pack in a good last week of activites though. Obviously

WEEK 14!!!!

My final week in Alaska is finally here! Coming up is going to be a very boring week of exam-taking and paper-writing. Fortunately for me, I've accomplished a good amount this week to wrap up my time here. I finally made my way up to Fairbanks! Me and a few friends took turns driving for a few hours. We even passed by some moose on the side of the road. Unfortunately for me, I volunteered right when the sun was starting to set and it started to snow. The road conditions were surprisingly okay, but it was very difficult to see since it was pitch black at 5:00. There also weren't many places to stop and switch drivers on the single road to Fairbanks. At least not any that I could see. When I tell you I could only see 20 feet in front of me, I'm not exaggerating. But we got there alive and in one piece.  We went out to get thai food before the activity since we didn't stop for food on the way up, and by the time we got back to the hotel, we had to change into our cold weat

WEEK 13!!!

Happy Thanksgiving!!! I had a very good week despite being away from family. My brother's birthday was the day before so I Facetimed and watched him open the present I sent him. He asked for a chess board (what a nerd). Him and my parents went to visit our extended family in North Carolina and I got to Facetime and talk to them as well. They were impressed by the amount of snow outside my window and by me saying 13 degrees was the warmest it's been in a while.  I also was eating lunch at the same time my family was eating Thanksgiving dinner so we ate together over Facetime (yes, three calls in two days). It lasted all of 20 minutes before they had gone through their first and second helpings.  I also officially finished planning my trip to Fairbanks with my friends. It'll be my last trip before I leave (which by the way is in two weeks)! We're going dogsledding and hopefully we'll spot the Northern Lights. I know I've talked about it like every single blog I&#

WEEK 12!!!

And the countdown continues! Three weeks until my flight home! This week was another good one.  I had friendsgiving on Monday with a bunch of my pals. Dinner was a good break from dining hall food. Luckily for me, they had all my thanksgiving favorites: chicken, mashed potatoes, brussel sprouts, mac and cheese, you name it.  The temperatures seem to be staying in the single digits from now on so the snow is still here. Everything is frozen and white. I took some pictures and it almost looks like I put a black and white filter over everything. It's very pretty, but spend more than 5 minutes outside and I get frost on my eyelashes.  The university had another movie night on Friday. I saw the new Ghostbusters movie with some friends. I thought the movie was good but not because of the plot. I rarely speak badly of movies but the comedy made the movie, it would've been hard to sit through otherwise. I also made a lot of progress on planning my trip to Fairbanks. I got some of my f

Week 12!!!

And once again, unsurprisingly, I'm blogging on Sunday because I forgot to yesterday. It's been a very eventful week. We got a really good snow day, which is still sticking around because its so cold. It was 7 degrees when I went to grab my dinner tonight. Of course I was expecting the cold, but it's currently 50 back home (in the middle of the night). I can't remember if it ever got in the single digits there. I've made a lot of progress planning the trips I wanted to take. I'll have to fit everything into December though because prices for transportation are high around thanksgiving. So, I'll have some good few blogs the last weeks before I leave which is in less than a month now (no way!). I'll also have gotten most of my studying for finals done by then too so I'll get to celebrate after the last few stressful weeks of the semester.  I have a lot to look forward to next week (the last week before thankgiving break). I'm going to have a frien

WEEK 11!

Another week gone by, this one was weird. I really didn't have a lot to do this week so I took the liberty of giving myself a mental health week. I slept in most days and read a lot and watched a lot of TV. But honestly it was a much needed break, and next week will go back to normal.  I finally achieved one of my goals and I saw a moose on campus! I was just walking to my chemistry class and there were two moose (mooses?) just standing right outside. I'm very glad I looked up because I feel like I could've just walked right by them and not even noticed. I have plenty of videos, unfortunately I didn't think to take a picture to post on here. You'll just have to take my word for it.  I went to go see Eternals on Friday and I loved it. I had no real prior knowledge on who the eternals were so I had no guesses on what the plot was, but I was happily suprised. The two post-credit scenes did not disappoint. If you've seen it then you know exactly what I'm talkin
